Every device which is connected to the world wide web has a unique identifier named IP (Internet Protocol) address. This includes computers, web servers, smartphones, switches, etc. The pool of addresses, that was introduced initially, has already been distributed, therefore the so-called IPv4 IP addresses are steadily getting replaced with IPv6 addresses. Every domain name which opens an internet site comes with an IP record, which is the address of the server where it is hosted. With the IPv4 system, the record is called A and it comprises of four groups of numbers from 1 to 255 divided by a dot, while in the IPv6 system it is called AAAA and it consists of 8 groups of hexadecimal numbers i.e. this kind of records use digits from 0 to 9 and letters from A to F. A good example of an AAAA record is 2010:0c48:43d3:2142:1012:8c3a:2475:2435 and this format can handle a considerably greater amount of IPs than the IPv4 format.

The new record shall be 100% functioning within only 1 hour and the hostname which you have created it for will start opening whatever content you have with the other provider. If required, you will also be able to change the TTL (Time To Live) value, which indicates the time in seconds that the new record will be live after you eventually change it to something different or you simply remove it.
AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you have a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you have to set up an AAAA record for a domain address you have hosted in it or a subdomain you have created, it will take you just a few mouse clicks inside the Hepsia CP to accomplish this. Even when you have never had a web hosting account before, you will not encounter any issues since you will use a very simple and user-friendly interface. All DNS records for your domains are going to be listed in a section of the Control Panel with the same name, so when you go there, you will see all records which have been created automatically or manually and you'll be able to set up a new one by simply clicking the corresponding button. A small pop-up shall appear, so with only a couple of clicks you can select the type of record you need and for which domain or subdomain it will be created. Then, just paste the IPv6 address inside a text box, save the change and 1 hour later the new AAAA record is going to be completely active. As an optional setting, you can choose the length of time this record shall be active after you edit it or erase it in the future. This is the so-called TTL, or Time To Live value of the record, which you can change from the standard 3600 seconds in case the other service provider demands it.
