An access log is a detailed list of all the files that were accessed by the visitors of a particular site. Every file that was requested in some way shall be listed, so if you have a single webpage with three embedded images, one video and one embedded text file, as an illustration, the access log shall contain a total of six entries - one for each of the 6 files which were accessed when the website visitor opened the webpage. A log usually shows the file name and path, the date, as well as the visitor’s OS, worldwide web browser and IP address. Occasionally you could also find the referrer sites that sent the visitors to your site. The information that an access log file contains is in human-readable plain text format. It can be processed by special software on a personal computer and used to write reports on the performance of a website, independent of the web statistics your server may have produced.
Access Log Manager in Website Hosting
Our in-house built Hepsia CP includes a section focused on various logs and the access logs are among them. When you sign in to your website hosting account and go to this section, you will find a list of all the domain names and subdomains that you have. All it takes to enable the generation of access logs is to press a button that will be available next to every domain/subdomain. When the option is enabled, you will see a download link as well as the file size so far, so you shall be able to save the file to your PC and look at it or process it with some application. Enabling or disabling the logs becomes effective instantaneously, so if you don't need one, you could stop it with only a click from the same exact section of the Control Panel. You will still be able to access the already developed content by clicking on the Download link.
Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you host your websites within a semi-dedicated server account with us, you will have the option to activate or deactivate the generation of access logs with only a couple of clicks inside your Hepsia hosting CP. You'll find this feature in the Access/Error Logs section, which you can access after you sign in. All it takes for our system to start creating logs is a single click on the On button that you will see there. The function can be triggered independently for any Internet site regardless if it uses a domain name or a subdomain and you'll find a detailed list of all the hosts inside that section. Any access log can be downloaded as a text file with just a click and you could then look at it manually or use some software on your computer. The log generation can be deactivated by simply changing the On option to Off inside the Logs section of your Control Panel.
